Scooters are pretty popular in India, and Honda’s Activa has been one of the most successful models in India selling over a crore of units on Indian turf already. When first launched backed in 1999, it took the market by storm and has since, become India’s favourite automatic scooter. The Activa 125 is a significant model in India as rivalry from Suzuki and Piaggio have managed to get a good grip of this segment. The Activa 125 brings with it a certain premiumness, along with improved refinement and a smooth engine. Also, it now offers more performance. The world’s best-selling scooter just got better.
Nestled in the frame is a 124cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 8.1bhp and 10.3Nm of torque. The motor is air-cooled and comes paired to a CVT automatic transmission. For 2020, the engine has been made compliant with BSVI emission standards.
The Activa 125 looks quite different from the regular Activa. The design is bolder; it gets chrome on the front apron along with the stylish indicators that sit flush with the ‘Y’-shaped chrome accent. The headlight sits on the handlebar. On the sides, it gets a panel with sharp creases on it. At the rear, it sports a huge tail lamp cluster that looks smart along with a massive grab handle. The instrument cluster gets a tiny digital screen that shows a fuel gauge, trip meter and odometer. The back-lit speedometer looks nice at night, and upon starting the scooter, the needle takes a full sweep and then starts. The quality of the switchgear leaves nothing to complain about. Even the font of the numbers looks clear and easy to read. In terms of dimensions, the Activa 125 is 1850mm in length, 707mm in width and 1170mm in height. The engine is refined and smooth with very few vibrations felt. Despite the extra weight, the Activa 125 pulls effortlessly. The transmission works smoothly. It can manage a top speed of 75-80kph, after which it tends to run of steam. At 111kgs, the kerb weight is decent. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 169mm, while the scooter has a wheelbase of 1260mm and a seat height of 712mm.
The Honda Activa 125 has a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 litres. In terms of mileage, the Activa 125 is capable of returning 60kmpl by ARAI, in BSVI guise.
The saddle is very comfortable, thanks to the width and of course, the cushioning. The aluminium grab handle feels nice to grip. This can also be used to carry a small parcel. You sit nice and upright on the scooter and the high-set handlebar really helps. And the under-seat storage is very practical given its capacity. The focus of the headlight is good too. And the seat lock is positioned in between the seat. The Activa 125 handles well, thanks to the firm suspension setup. Around corners, the tyres provide ample grip. It is also very stable at speeds and ride quality is good. The good ground clearance also helps when it comes to tackling speed bumps. At the front, the scooter rides on telescopic suspension, while the rear gets a spring loaded hydraulic type shock absorber. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a high rigidity underbone type frame. The Activa 125 runs on 90/90-12 tyres at the front and 90/100-10 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by a disc brake up-front and drum brakes at the rear.
Features include LED headlamp, digital analog meter with eco speed indicator, 4-in-1 lock with seat opening switch, 3-step rear adjustable suspension, service due indicator, front disc brakes, grey alloy wheels, chrome metal muffler cover, CBS with equalizer and mobile-charging socket.
